Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony Featured at Gems and Java!

Come and enjoy an Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony at our Gems & Java events. Shelley’s friends Ejig, Rukia and Kuki will be at our events serving coffee, Ethiopian bread and popcorn. Ethiopia is the founding place of coffee and is a very important part of their culture. Enjoy a peak in to the Ethiopian culture at our Gems & Java event. So much more to enjoy at Gems & Java – amazing Silent Auction, appetizers, desserts, coffee, Ethiopian Marketplace, entertainment, Bags & Baubles Boutique with hundreds of items to choose from, wine and specialty coffee ($5) and hear about the work in Ethiopia during a short presentation. We are really excited to have Panino’s Catering provide appetizers and desserts for our Gems & Java event this year! Kim Hart and Scott Hart (sister and brother) have been business partners for over 20 years. Their catering business has grown so successfully, they decided to close their Sandwich Shop and focus on their catering business solely. Thank you so much Kim and Scott for your generous in-kind sponsorship of Gems & Java! Friday, April 8th is sold out but we have some tickets left for Saturday, April 9th. What Happens?

Mothers with a Heart for Ethiopia receives donations of gently used purses, jewellery and fashion scarves throughout the year specifically for this event. Guests are invited to enjoy coffee and delicious desserts while listening to the latest updates from Mothers with a Heart for Ethiopia. Each attendee chooses a complimentary purse, scarf or piece of jewellery. Guests are invited to purchase additional pieces for a donation (suggested minimum $5 per piece). As well, guests are invited to bid on silent auction items with many high-end items kindly donated from others within Oxford County. We can kindly accept cash, cheque or Visa/MasterCard.

Where Does the Money Go?

The goal of our fundraising effort is to provide the financial resources to existing and future programs that assist Ethiopian women and children living in poverty. Mothers with a Heart for Ethiopia is committed to accomplishing this in a culturally sensitive, effective and appropriate manner. As the organization is completely volunteer driven with no overhead costs, guests can ensure that all of their donations go directly to Ethiopia.

We've Got This In The Bag - 2016

Are you interested in donating to Gems and Java? Here are some more details about how you can donate!! With the beginning of a New Year brings excitement as we prepare for our Gems & Java event. Our annual "We've Got This in the Bag" campaign will be commencing very soon and Mothers With a Heart for Ethiopia is seeking your help and support. Collecting donations in our blue bags will make a big difference in the success of Gems & Java.

Blue Bags

What do I do with the Blue Bags?

- You can hand out blue bags to your friends and families to collect gently used jewellery, purses, and fashion scarves

- You can contact any churches, sports teams, businesses, hair salons, yoga studios, tanning salons, community centres, gyms or clubs you are part of, etc. and distribute blue bags to collect jewellery, purses, and scarves

- Each bag has a sticker on the front of the bag. The stickers have a section for your contact information so people making donations will know who to contact for drop off or pick up of their bags.

Where can I get Blue Bags?

You can contact Brittany, Deb or Lisa to pick up Blue Bags or have them delivered if you have mobility concerns.

Where can I drop off my filled Blue Bags and donations?

- You can go to Cowan Park in Woodstock to drop them off Monday-Friday between the hours of 9:00AM and 5:00PM

- You can contact Lisa, Deb, or Brittany to arrange to have your donations picked up if you are unable to go to Cowan Park

What if I don’t have any Blue Bags or I run out?

- If you don’t have any Blue Bags yet or you have run out, you can still collect donations; we will take jewellery, purses and scarves in any kind of bag! Contact one of the above individuals and we will get you your Blue Bags as fast as we can or collect your donations in the bags you have.
